(1)-We have time to do a thorough investigation.  Law enforcement officers do the best they can with the time they are allotted to work your case.  If your case is not a "high priority" case,  investigators often are not able to do a thorough investigation due to these time restraints. 

(2)- Experience!  Many,  if not most officers on the street who take your initial police report are  relatively "new" to their job.  They quite often simply don't have the knowledge or experience to ask   "ALL"  the right questions;  or resources to get necessary answers that will help you get the desired and best results on your case.

I. !   And, IF the referral turns into an "Active" case, (a paying client,) for us,  you will receive a "Referral Fee" of $25, (*OR a Gift Certificate to "Lucky 32", whichever you prefer.)  We will send you a "check" (or certificate) along with a copy of the investigative report.  Then, if you choose to take the case from the client, you have absolutely NO investment of money or time up to that point.  We can (and will) negotiate our own agreements and collect our own fees (retainers) from the client.  You won’t have to pay "retainers" to us (in most cases.)  And, again, we’ll actually pay you for making referrals that turn into "active", working cases for us.  All you have to do is tell them you need a report done by a P.I., and give them our name and phone number. Be sure to tell them to tell us that "you" referred them to us.  It’s that simple. We’ll take it from there.  The biggest savings to you though,  just may be your TIME !   We'll get all the facts for you and you can review the report at your convenience. 

We will also provide professional pre-trial investigative service on cases you already have accepted.  Normal fees apply, but may be negotiable, depending on the size and nature of the case.

I entered this business after retirement from the Greensboro Police Department with over 25 years service. Eighteen of these years were spent in an investigative unit; 4 ½ years as an investigator and the remaining 13 ½ years supervising the "Accident Follow-Up Squad", (now re-named the "Crash Reconstruction Team".)  an investigative unit, as a Sergeant (squad supervisor.)  Before joining the Police Department, I worked for 12 years in the Steel Fabrication industry as a design draftsman/engineer.

Computer Technology:   We CAN use modern computer programs to assist in investigating and reconstructing auto crashes, and we DO when necessary!   BUT.. many times,  simply finding and properly analyzing and interpreting all available physical evidence,  and conducting efficient and effective interviews with witnesses,  proves to be more productive and convincing in a court of law.  We know that concrete facts about cases along with accurate interpretation and presentation of physical evidence carries more weight in a court of law.  Often,  jurors and the court are not impressed by a lot of fancy computerized programs and complicated mathematical jargon.  They want the simple facts presented to them in layman's language and terms.  That's what we strive to accomplish when we investigate or reconstruct a case.

The primary,  and most important difference,  between ACCAR-P.I.   and other accident reconstruction firms which "say" they specialize in "Accident Reconstruction" is that we actually "re-investigate" every aspect of the accident;  not just run loads of data through a computerized reconstruction program. (We do that too!  But that's simply not enough!)   NOTHING.. can replace "years" of actual,  on the job accident investigation experience.  We know what to look for.  Others will "OVERLOOK" valuable evidence/information because they simply don't know what to look for to begin with!   Many times,  the "key" to answering questions about a traffic accident are simple.. if you know what you're looking for and what questions to ask from witnesses!

We actively "search" for new,  misinterpreted,   and overlooked evidence.  And,   we have the "experience" and "know-how" to recognize it when we see it!    And, many times,  it should NOT require "expert" testimony to get it introduced into court,   IF it has to go that far to begin with!  The majority of cases will be resolved through out of court litigation between us and  insurance adjusters/ investigators or attorneys.

We supply a "Crash Report Critique" of the "Crash / Accident Report"  that was prepared by the "on-scene"   investigating officer.   And,  we have the "PRACTICAL and PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE" to do this job also.   We find that many times,  the answers are "right there.. under the investigator's nose"... But, due to a lack of "Time to Investigate;"   because of police personnel under-staffing;  Inadequate professional training and practical experience (coupled with the absence of simple logic).. Valuable evidence / information is frequently ignored or overlooked!  

A SIGNIFICANTLY "HIGH"  PERCENTAGE of traffic collisions are improperly investigated.  Evidence is mis-interpreted and mis-diagnosed,  or not collected at all.  Often,  ACCAR-P.I.  can supply accurate and correct answers necessary  to rectify the situation with insurance companies.... without going to court....  maybe even without the services of an attorney!   But, if that is necessary, we can provide the expert testimony needed to help clarify the problem. 

    
RATES:

You've hired a Private Investigator,  but you're not getting the results or "real" answers you expect!   Are you even getting your money's worth for the "Professional Private Investigative" services you are paying for? 

Private Investigative services are moderately expensive,  but usually not more than you'd pay for the services of a plummer, electrician, etc. !   A contractual agreement with  ACCAR-P.I.   will assure you that you get your money's worth!

 
ACCAR-P.I.   requires a "retainer" fee to be paid "up front" before we can actively begin investigating any case.  Our standard Initial "retainer fee" usually begins at (about) $800 and may be higher (or lower) depending upon the nature and specifics of the case.

  
ATTORNEYS NOTE:   We CAN and DO negotiate our own contracts with clients in many instances.  Thus,  YOU  may NOT have to make any monetary investment to retain our services.   All you have to do is refer the client directly to ACCAR-P.I.    and we will proceed with the investigation from that point.  Then,  you will be provided with a report upon completion of a preliminary, or complete in-depth investigation.. whichever the client contracts with us to perform.  (*See special NOTE at top,  on "Referral Fee" we pay!)

 
CLIENTS NOTE:    ACCAR-P.I.    CAN and WILL enter into agreements with clients on a "Consignment" basis.   Ask us about this "special agreement"  if you have financial difficulty / problems with paying our "up front" retainer and subsequent investigative fees.    Depending upon the "facts" of your case,   we *may be able to "work" your case in return for a "guarantee" of a nominal percentage of any "settlement"  that may / will be received at some future time.  

(*NOTE:  Clients are still responsible for paying "actual accrued investigative expenses" at some precise future date IF a settlement is not reached in the case.   Or,  IF the agreed percentage of a final settlement in the case does not equal the actual accrued expenses,  the client will owe the "actual accrued expenses" to  ACCAR-P.I. .

OUR RATES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

"CONSULTATION" Rates: The minimum "Base Rate"  for preliminary consultation / investigation begins at $300.00. (*But,  you still get one hour 'free' time!)  Each case may be different depending upon the amount of preliminary study and investigation required.   Specific rates will be quoted according to the extent of work needed/desired by the client. This includes a short letter summarizing initial findings and opinions.  If a complete investigation is then desired, the rates listed below will then apply. 

*NOTE:  One "FREE" hour of consultation is included with each and every case, whether or not we sign a contract to proceed with an active investigation.

Our rates are as follows:  HOURLY RATE:   
            $60 per hour,  per investigator, on traffic & criminal cases.
            $55 per hour, per investigator, on domestic, workman's comp., etc.- - cases requiring surveillance.

    ($100* per hour IF a ACCAR-P.I.    investigator is certified to testify as a "Expert" witness.
              *Applies to time on witness stand in court ONLY !) 

     Associate Fees: $40 per hour (Minimum), per associate.  (This entails mostly research and steno duties.)

     Surveillance Cases:   $55 per hour,  per investigator.   This is negotiable!   Usually,  stationary surveillance costs the least, and the best deal for the money is when 'blocks' of time are guaranteed on a case.  (Example:  5 days with minimum of 5 hours per day may cost less than the minimum hourly cost.) 

     Equipment Charges:  

Tracker / Transmitters cost $100 per installation and for the first two weeks usage.   A $50 per week fee applies thereafter. No other charges apply unless the equipment is lost or stolen.  Replacement cost is $200 per unit.

GPS units: $400 per week to monitor the unit.  ($1,500 min. security deposit for GPS unit. Refunded upon return of unit) Hourly surveillance rates and mileage rates apply.

    DNA Testing:  $400* for preliminary,  presumptive (POS/NEG) analysis* of each "target" sample.  $1,000* for DNA profile of first POSITIVE "target" sample*,  and $1,000* for profile of "client" sample*;  $400* for additional profiles of "target" samples (3 Max.) on same case.  Prices include all testing and reports.  Testimony and expenses by lab experts extra cost,  quoted at time of need for each case.

DNA Paternity tests are $500 for the tests.  Administrative costs are extra at $50 per hour / .55 cents per mile.
Administrative fees are extra for reports and handling at  ACCAR-P.I.    hourly rates.  (* Test prices are approximate and subject to change.   Prices will be quoted on individual,  case by case basis at the time of need.)  

                            MILEAGE RATE:      .58* cents per mile.. as of 6/26/2008
                                                                       * Subject to constant change due to fuel price fluctuations and IRS regulations!

EXPENSES:   We charge our  "actual cost" for expenses for items such as:  film and photo processing; "Skip Traces," Shipping/Postage; Enlargements / Copies of Scale Drawings, Photos, Reports;  Lodging and meals for special travel requirements on cases such as airfares, vehicle rentals, taxis, etc.;  plus actual time at contractual rate.

(*NOTE:  If   our investigators must travel over 100 miles from home, and works a minimum of 16 hours in one day,  (including travel time,)   the investigator may stay overnight before traveling home and one nights motel bill and meals will be included in the final billing.   We will not endanger the safety of our investigators by requiring them to travel long distances to home after working a double shift.  (*Sleep and Non-Working time is not included in billing.)

:Consultation – For attorneys,   individuals or companies with "fleets" of vehicles; other criminal, traffic or civil litigation's.  Our expertise in accident (collision) investigation will often benefit your case by a simple review of the collision report and diagram.  We can often offer you additional avenues to pursue that will enable you to effectively prepare your case for court.

:Background Investigations – Employment;  Personal !   Do you need a standardized,  but thorough employment application form?  We have them, or we can assist you in creating one!  We can also conduct thorough employee and personal background investigations for you.

:Re-investigate your case -  ACCAR-P.I.   will research,  review,  interpret and "re-investigate" public documents and every aspect of your case, whether is related to "Criminal", "Traffic" or a "Civil" matter.  The "cause" (or "causes") of a traffic accident are not always the most obvious!    And, "cause" of death in fatal accidents is not always the obvious result of the "cause" of the accident!  We check roadway defects and maintenance; hospital, medical and certified death records, and more!

   *NOTE:   ACCAR-P.I.   prefers to do all personal interviews related to any case we work to assure that we are fully informed about the case and that nothing is overlooked. 

"Crash Report Critique":     We will review and interpret every entry, code, etc., on accident / crash reports for you.  If errors, misinterpretations, ommissions are present,   we will give you written documentation that you (or  ACCAR-P.I. ) can take to the law enforcement agency for review and revision or correction.

:Re-measure / Reconstruct Crime and Accident scenes – A combination of procedures can often be employed to discover "other" factors which may have contributed to the occurrence of a traffic collision.

ACCAR-P.I.   uses only experienced investigative personnel that will perform detailed interviews with all witnesses and other persons with knowledge.

:Fraudulent Claims – Staged accidents; fake injury claims? Surveillance is available, but not always the only way to prove injury claims are fraudulent. Vehicle examinations can reveal low speeds and minimal opportunity for injury to occur. Many accidents don’t occur as reported. This could affect the type and amount of a claim paid.

:Time / Distance / Speed Equations – An example of how this can be used is to determine if a vehicle stopped for a stop sign; or the approach speed of a vehicle before a collision occurs, and more.

:Skid-Drag Sled Tests – These tests can provide "minimum" speeds of vehicles if the distance of the skid before impact is known.

:Critical Speed of curve and "Yaw" mark calculations – Very accurate speeds available for this function.

:Airborne Equations:  i.e.; Flip, Vault; Fall calculations –A very accurate and valuable tool in accident reconstruction.

:Vehicle Examinations - Tire, Headlight / Lamp, Steering, suspension exams; Manufacturer’s Defects / Recalls and more!

:Vehicle Damage Comparison and Matching:   Over 20 years experience in collecting,  comparing evidence,  and matching vehicle damage means expert opinions relating to vehicle damage sequence in collisions. Our ability to examine,  visualize and interpret vehicle damage often leads to viable solutions to "how" vehicle collisions occurred.  This is most beneficial in multi-vehicle collisions and those where eye-witness statements are absent,  or conflict with others and physical evidence. 

: "Line-of-Sight" Vision Tests (day & night) – Did some unnoticed object or condition obscure vision? Was there enough light to see?  These questions can often be answered using proper investigative techniques.

:Reconstruction Animation – This is a visual (video) aid which, in some cases, can be very beneficial in a courtroom. 
ACCAR-P.I.  can assist you in getting this done.  It is expensive,  but some times,  it is worth the cost.

:Domestic / Workman's Comp Cases  .... We work these too!... Using modern surveillance and tracking equipment, we keep track of our "target" and get the results you are looking for!  We have several licensed and experienced investigators that work our domestic and workman's comp type cases.

DNA Profile Testing:  $400 for preliminary,  presumptive (POS/NEG) analysis* of each "target" sample.  $1,000 for DNA profile of first POSITIVE "target" sample*,  and $1,000 for profile of "client" sample*;  $400 for additional profiles of "target" samples (3 Max.) on same case.  Prices include all testing and reports.  Testimony and expenses by lab experts extra cost,  quoted at time of need for each case.
